Table Setting #1 - Killing Time in Town #1 - Thieves

Welcome to the first installment of Table Setting! Each installment will have at least one random table - the lifeblood of the busy GM and the OSR. There will be individual randomness as well as some themed multi-table posts or a series. My preference is to build d30 and d% tables. So lets get on to it.

The first table will be Pick Pockets! When that thief character is bored in town and wants to ply his skills on an evening out at the Night Market while the Fighters are gambling, you need to know what they have pilfered.

First, decide on Available Targets:

Roll a d30 on the Available Targets Table twice (2x). Available targets are the targets rolled and the targets listed in the row above and below each roll.

Ex: the GM rolls a '4' and a '23'. That means available targets for pickpocketing are (#4)Vagabonds and Ne'er Do Wells and Peasants (slim pickings), and (#23) Soldiery, Wealthy Merchants, and Landed Gentry, and Gentlemen and Ladies.

The available targets results do not mean other people are not around (that's a different future table), but they are simply not viable targets for the evening.

If the Pickpocket roll is a success, roll 1d30 on the following table, based on Target, to see your pickings:

Vagabonds and Ne'er Do Wells

Peasants

Workers

Workers and Craftsmen

Merchants and Tradesmen

Wealthy Merchants and Landed Gentry

Soldiery

Gentlemen and Ladies

Petty Lords and Ladies

Lesser Lords and Ladies

Some of the results are simple items of treasure, others are oddities of someone's station, some are strange items or hooks for other adventures in blackmailing and spying and impersonation.

I hope you will find some use in this Table Set. I will be doing a whole series on 'Killing Time in Town', which may get as dangerous as the foulest dungeon. Towns are filled with the worst monsters of all...NPC's. Enjoy.
